Beautiful meditation on America's cycles of growth, harvest, decay, death and rebirth. Thanks for framing it within the contexts of the medicine wheel and motherhood cycles. I think Trevor would be pleased that his song inspired your thoughtful essay.

Merci Rien, I so appreciate seeing how much you resonate with my writing! It definitely gives me joy and fuel to keep going. One of the most challenging things since becoming a mother is my early-morning insomnia, but I'm making lemonade with it as it's my time to write.

Incredible read - thank you for the care, attention, and liberation in this post. I've been desperately craving this sort of discussion for the US. Wondering if you have any insight about the non-US lens?

Thank you so much for reading and responding with such care!

I know that some people look to apply generational theories (Strauss-Howe and others) to different cultural / national contexts, but I don't know enough about them to really recommend any deep dives. What I do find really interesting and useful is bringing the integral theory framing of Spiral Dynamics to understanding different dynamics in various settings around the world.

I do always want to caution however that a non-integral reading of integral theory / spiral dynamics can fall into hierarchical thinking and I think some people may come to conclusions about lines of development that are more rooted in confirmation bias than actually working with and appreciating the wisdom that is present at every stage of the spiral.

It's something I love talking about and exploring with others, so if you dive into that world I'd love to hear your thoughts!
