I set out to write a short little essay to accompany this video I’ve made to kick off a series I’m doing on YouTube about the pitfalls and potentials of personal development work.
I love this post. You do a beautiful job of articulating my lifelong struggle to bring together the personal and the collective. I also love how you grounded it in your relationship with your dad.
Thank you James, I really appreciate hearing this from you, and I'd love to hear your thoughts further about this topic, as I know you hold perspectives and experiences that would bring a lot of insight to others around this question. It's been really gratifying to see the resonance people have with this particular essay, and I can imagine this topic being a potent line of discussion to connect with your book release, should you want to go there!
Hi Dan, So good to hear from you! I learned from Ganga that y’all are friends. I found Ganga and Seth on Substack and hired them as coaches to help me with moving in a new direction with my work. We have a lot in common. Hope to visit South Florida soon. Looking at late January, early February. It would be nice to see you and Jane.
Yes! I was expressing to James the other day what an honor it is to be a point of reconnection between two men I respect so deeply. Much love to you both!
One of my favorite concepts from metamodern philosophy is "dynamic oscillation." That seems like exactly what you're doing with your "third path" approach. That's the rich territory where collapse and convergence can co-exist. Thanks for the thoughtful piece. Blessings on your path 🙏🏼
Thank you for this! I hadn’t heard this term before, but it seems to point also to what Seth and I teach as Dynamic Harmony, especially when we’re teaching Polarity Agility. Dynamic Oscillation also feels like it’s even more directly pointing to the Flux-Equilibrium of systems theory from Bertalanffy. I love hearing your thoughts on my work, and am enjoying exploring your writings in kind! Thank you for looking with such depth at the generational patterns we’re living in.
I am glad I kept this Ganga to read - my tome of work on One Living System - gifted through me - ends on Love. I see exactly what you are writing here -there is so much to say. Our truth our oneness our belonging and where that was lead and the separation sickness we have endured on top of the trauma that Life has grown through - and here we are - returning to our place amongst this sacredness and we discover that the 'self help' industry all along was never complete - we found only self - not one - and when we come to that realisation of oneness we find love - as the only act that is internal and external to our being as truth and the journey our collective is called to. Love to you and deep gratitude for your voice and willingness to share
What an amazing and beautiful photo of you and your dad!
I often think about what you've expressed here: "And the notion that we can “heal ourselves” without addressing the systems that injure us is not only false — it’s a kind of gaslighting. It places the burden of healing on the individual, while keeping the structures of harm intact."
Thank you Sita, it means so much to me to hear from you, and for you to express this resonance. I know you were very dear to my dad, and I am feeling him and so many other beloved dead close during this magical time of the year. Sending you and the family so much love!
Let the record show, I read this around the time you posted it and have been sitting with it ever since. That being said I am astounding at the volume of your creativity since! I'm amazed at all you've created and shared in just over a month. It's wonderful to witness the work move through you. 🙏🏼 Looking forward to catching up.
Delicious, wonderful and just wonder full. Beautiful to see this conversation continuing. I had more or less this conversation with Ram Giri many times over the years. Lovely to see where much of his later life transformation on this topic was emerging from. The tender tending space, the dance, between inner and outer love (a distinction that does not really exist but does) from my view births the 10,000 things, call them solutions if you must, I prefer really to call it the Way of the limitless expressions of love. I know your dad is not only proud but grinning and guffawing with delight at the path your are taking and the way you are navigating it.

Hey Jim! What a delight to see you here! Old friends gathering on Ganga Devi's substack comment section. Kind of gives an old fella hope? Much love!

Thank you Chandni, it is so helpful to hear where there's resonance.

Hi Chandni
